Syria Marks 20 Years with UCHS

United Church Homes and Services (UCHS) Board Chairman, Ray Deal, recognized Lee Syria, President/CEO, United Church Homes and Services for twenty years of service to the organization at the Spring Board Retreat.

            Syria began her career with Abernethy Laurels, a senior living community of UCHS, in 1997 as Personnel Manager.  In 2000 she became Vice President of Human Resources for UCHS and in 2008 she was selected Senior Vice President of Operations for the organization.   Syria was named the first female President and CEO of UCHS in 2012.  Through Syria’s leadership and guidance, UCHS has been listed in the LeadingAge Ziegler 150 Report of the nation’s largest not-for-profit senior living organization and also labeled as a game changer in the industry. UCHS serves over 2300 senior adults annually and employs approximately 850 team members at 11 locations across NC and VA.

“Caring for seniors is part of Lee’s DNA,” shared Board Chairman, Ray Deal.  “Her commitment to UCHS’s faith-based philosophy and long-standing traditions and values are reflected in her leadership and management.  We salute her on 20 years of service.”

Syria holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Health Care Management from Appalachian State University.  Syria is a licensed nursing home administrator in both the State of North Carolina and in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  She is a consecrated Diakonal Minister through the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) and serves on the Board of Directors of CHHSM, LeadingAge NC and the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce.
