Lake Prince Woods Marine Corps Birthday Celebration
November 12, 2019
On November 8, 2019, Marines were invited to Lake Prince Woods from a local recruiting station to take part in our Marine Corps Birthday Celebration for the Grant-A-Dream program. Major Hutton was accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Robert Ricketts. Also in attendance was charter resident and veteran, 1st Sgt Harry Cummings, who has been a member of Lake Prince Woods since its opening in 2002. Cummings was given special mention at the ceremony as he is the oldest Marine at Lake Prince Woods. Dozens of residents and staff gathered together to recognize their service and achievements. After the cake cutting ceremony, residents and Marines came together and shared their stories and experiences in service.
LaJon Hutton was born and raised in Altus, Oklahoma. After graduating high school, he received a military scholarship and went on to Kentucky to attend the University of Louisville. During his four years at Louisville, Hutton attended military training every summer on his military scholarship. After earning his undergraduate degree, Hutton entered the Marines as an Officer. Hutton served on the Marines for 20 years and retired as a Major in Washington D.C. Hutton has been a resident of Lake Prince Woods since 2011.
The United Church Homes and Services Grant-A-Dream program supports residents by helping them relive pleasant experiences from their past or by helping them achieve a dream from their bucket list. In the past, the program has helped residents at United Church Homes and Services (UCHS) communities achieve various goals and dreams, from flower arranging classes to indoor skydiving.
