November 14, 2018
Amber McIntosh, Executive Director of Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community in Newton, recently announced that Matthew Diggs will be mentoring as Administrator In Training (AIT) at the community. The AIT program is guided by the NC Board of Nursing Home Administrators. The AIT program ensures that all applicants have the proper training and experience prior to becoming licensed as a long term care administrator.
Matthew Diggs, a resident of Caldwell County, received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Concentration: Health Care Management and a Masters of Business Administration: Interdisciplinary Management from Appalachian State University. Diggs has previous experience in the medical field as an application specialist with Carolinas HealthCare System and client services manager with Bayada Home Healthcare. He is enrolled in the 34-week AIT program, under the direction of Amber McIntosh, to further develop his knowledge and skills within the healthcare industry as a pathway to Nursing Home Administrator (NHA).
“We are excited to have Matt at Abernethy Laurels,” shared McIntosh. “He will be integrated into all departments within our community through the Administrator In Training program. The program is a unique phase of training consisting of supervised practice of long term care administration in the health center, assisted living, and home and community based service environment.”
The AIT Program is to spur and enhance the professional development of the AIT in the field of long term care administration. The program will provide a solid foundation for the trainee and equips them with hands-on experiences, tools and knowledge to become an administrator.
